Frequently Asked Questions about the COCAINE QTest

How much material do I need for the test?

You only need 20 mg (0.02 g) of your sample to perform the test. It is best if you finely crushed and homogenized sample and mix it well at first. The result will tell you the potency of cocaine-HCL in 1g of your sample.

What substances might interfere with the test results?

The test may show false positives with substances like lidocaine. It is designed to avoid false positives with levamisole. Additional tests, like Scott 2.0 and Marquis reagents, are recommended for verifying other substances.

Can the COCAINE QTest detect fentanyl in cocaine samples?

No, the COCAINE QTest is designed specifically to measure the concentration of cocaine and does not detect the presence of fentanyl or other opioids. Given the increasing risk of fentanyl contamination in cocaine, we strongly recommend using a Fentanyl Antibody Test Strip to check for this dangerous substance. Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that can be lethal even in small amounts, so additional testing is essential for safety.

Can this test detect "pink cocaine" (Tusi)?

What does quantitative test mean and how does the QTest differ from “classic” reagent tests?

Our QTests are more powerful than classic reagent tests. While reagent tests detect the presence of an active ingredient in a substance, our QTests quantify it. This means they determine the concentration of active ingredients in different sustances.

What is the shelf life of the QTest, and how should I store it?

Store the reagents at room temperature (2 - 20 °C) out of direct sunlight for a shelf life  of at least 12 months. If possible: it is best to store the chemical reagents chilled in the  refrigerator. 

What substances commonly adulterate cocaine?

Common adulterants include:

• Levamisole (an animal deworming agent toxic to humans),
• Lidocaine/Procaine (local anesthetics mimicking cocaine),
• Phenacetin (analgesic, toxic to humans),
• Caffeine and Paracetamol (pain relievers/stimulants to dilute or mimic effects).
• Some samples might also be laced with fentanyl, a dangerous opioid.
