Do I need anything else to perform the test?
Everything you need is included in the box. To prepare your sample, you will also need a few common household items:
- A grinder or scissors to finely grind the sample
- A milligram scale to weigh 20 mg
- A small funnel, weighing dish or a folded piece of paper to transfer the sample into the vial
What sample types can be tested? Can I test oils?
This kit can be used with both solid and liquid cannabis products. It is suitable for:
- Dried plant material (e.g. cannabis flower)
- Concentrates and extracts (e.g. hash, wax)
- Oils and tinctures (including e-liquids)
*For extracts and liquids, the sample amount must be adjusted, as they are usually more concentrated than plant material. Please see the FAQ below or refer to the manual for detailed instructions.
The test is designed for 20 mg of cannabis flower. This is the standard amount used for the colour chart.
Dried plant material
Use 20 mg (0.02 g) of dried flower.
For the most reliable result, grind and mix a larger amount first. Then take 20 mg from this mixture, rather than testing only one small piece of flower.
Extracts and concentrates
Extracts such as hash, wax, rosin, or distillate are usually much stronger than flower. Therefore, you should use less material:
- Use 10 mg for medium-strength extracts.
- Use 5 mg for highly concentrated extracts.
Because you are using less than the standard 20 mg, the number you read from the colour chart will be lower than the actual potency. After the test, you will need to correct this result. The next FAQ explains exactly how.
Liquids and oils
- Use 1 drop for strong products, such as high-potency vape liquids or oils.
- Use 2–3 drops for lower-strength products.
Drops do not always have the same weight, so you will need to weigh the liquid used before calculating the final result. The next FAQ explains this step-by-step.
How do I evaluate results from extracts and concentrates?
The colour chart is calibrated for 20 mg of sample. Because extracts are usually much stronger than cannabis flower, you may use a smaller amount for the test.
When you use less than 20 mg, the colour reaction will appear lighter. This means that the value shown on the colour chart is not yet the final potency of your extract.
To calculate the final result:

If you used 10 mg of extract, multiply the value shown on the colour chart by 2.
Example: If the colour chart shows 25% THC, your extract contains approximately 50% THC.

If you used 5 mg of extract, multiply the value shown on the colour chart by 4.
Example: If the colour chart shows 20% THC, your extract contains approximately 80% THC.
Are there any special steps for liquids or oils?
Yes. You can test oils, tinctures, and vape liquids with the THC/CBD QTest. However, because drops can vary in size, you need to check the weight of the liquid you use before calculating your final result.
1. Choose how many drops to use
- Use 1 drop for highly concentrated liquids, such as strong vape products.
- Use 2–3 drops for lower-concentration liquids.
2. Measure the weight of your drops
- Put the bottle or vial containing your liquid on a precision scale and note the weight.
- Remove the drops you want to use for the test.
- Add these drops to the test vial.
- Put the liquid bottle or vial on the scale again.
- Subtract the second weight from the first weight.
The difference is the total weight of liquid used for your test. Alternatively, you can measure the weight of multiple drops and divide the total by the number of drops to calculate the weight of a single drop.
Example:
Before taking the drops: 12.540 g
After taking the drops: 12.490 g
12.540 g − 12.490 g = 0.050 g
This means you used 50 mg of liquid.
3. Calculate your final result
The colour chart is calibrated for 20 mg of sample.
Use this calculation:
Final THC/CBD result = colour chart result × 20 ÷ weight of liquid used (mg)
Example:
You used 50 mg of liquid and the colour chart shows 20% THC:
20 × 20 ÷ 50 = 8% THC
Your liquid therefore contains approximately 8% THC.
If your sample weighs exactly 20 mg, you can read the result directly from the colour chart without any calculation.
Does this test detect synthetic cannabis? Can I tell if my weed is fake?
No, this test does not detect synthetic cannabinoids. It’s designed to measure THC/CBD levels only. To screen for synthetic or “fake” cannabis (like Spice or K2), consider pairing the QTest with our K2/Spice Test Kit.

Can I use the test for other substances?
No, the THC/CBD QTest is specifically designed for cannabis (flower material) and is calibrated to measure THC and CBD content only.
What does a “quantitative test” mean?
Unlike classic reagent tests, which only indicate whether a substance is present, the QTest measures how much is present. The THC/CBD QTest provides a quantitative result, showing the concentration of THC and CBD in your sample.
How accurate is the QTest?
The QTest is designed to provide reliable, lab-like estimates of THC and CBD content when used correctly. Following the instructions carefully, especially accurate weighing and proper mixing, will help ensure the most precise results.
How should I store the test and what is its shelf life?
Store the reagents at room temperature, ideally between 2–20°C, away from direct sunlight. For maximum shelf life of at least 18 months, refrigeration is recommended when possible.

I would prefer the reagent quantities to be higher, so that it would be possible to use, for example, 1 g instead of 0.2 g of dried material for the test

Weil, wenn man mit Profis zusammen arbeiten will, dann ist man bei den Leuten von Miraculix genau richtig!
